Oxygen at Cop15 of Copenaghen

GREEN DELIVERY CAN FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE

Copenhagen December 2009 Nine out of 10 Europeans worry about the traffic situation in their area. But now there´s a simple way for citizens to breathe cleaner air and fight climate change in the process. Switch to C02-neutral delivery of goods and mail - and urge local companies and politicians to go green on delivery services.

In Copenhagen, the world´s leaders are busy negotiating a deal to fight climate change at the COP15 UN Climate Conference. But it´s not all big politics. Citizens around the globe are looking for local solutions to the climate challenges, and to the 500 million people living in Europe in it´s all about finding ways to combat environmental problems caused by urban traffic such as high emissions of C02, air pollution and noise.

Look for greener delivery
“The good news is that there are ways to act and make a difference in local areas. One place to start is to look for greener ways to have goods or mail delivered, particularly in urban areas where both citizens and companies can opt for Light Electrical Vehicles (LEV´s). They emit little or no C02 and spare the planet 90% emissions compare to traditional vehicles fueled by petrol and diesel. In addition to cutting C02, LEV´s are virtually noiseless and help reduce the problem of noise in urban environments.

Action!
An example of a cleaner transport solution is the Swiss national postal service that serves seven million citizens and has recently doubled its fleet of C02-neutral scooters, bringing the total number up to 500. As a result, Swiss Post´s scooter fleet is now the largest one in the world, saving the world 1,250 tonnes of C02 emissions per year. It has once again chosen the 100% electric CargoScooter developed by the Italian company Oxygen.

“There´s no quick fix when it comes to reducing C02-emissions and pollution from urban transportation, but we are here to show that there are ways citizens and companies can act today. By being present at Hopenhagen LIVE during COP15 we want to demonstrate that zero emission vehicles are part of the solution and can immediately improve urban life”, says Oxygen CEO Francesco Nepi.

Test and ride a C02-neutral scooter
To see how C02-neutral scooters can help fight climate changes in our cities, the media and citizens are invited to visit Oxygen at the Hopenhagen LIVE event in the city square from 11th – 17th of December (12-20 pm, Pavilion 3). Oxygen CargoScooters will be there to test and ride from 4-5 pm in the Electric Vehicles area (city square next to the Christmas tree) from 11th – 17th of December.
The CargoScooters will also participate in the world’s biggest climate friendly motor parade and art work “C02 E-race” in the streets of Copenhagen on Sunday 13th of December starting at 10 am next to the city square.

Zero Emission Christmas Cards
Oxygen will offer zero-emission X-mas cards to those interested in sending a C02-neutral Season´s Greetings from Copenhagen.

Did you know that…
  • More than 60% of the EU population lives in urban areas
  • Nine out of 10 Europeans think the traffic situation in their area should be improved
  • Urban mobility accounts for 40% of all C02 emissions of road transport and up to 70% of other pollutants from road transport EU Green Paper “Towards a new culture for urban mobility”
  • 55% of those living in urban areas with more than 250 000 inhabitants in the EU (almost 67 million people) endure daily road noise levels above the lower EU benchmark (55Lden) for excess exposure European Environment Agency TERM 2008: indicators tracking transport and environment in the EU
Circulating Scooters
According to the Association des Constructeurs Européens de Motocycles “Europe has experienced a significant growth of the Powered Two-Wheeler (PTW´s ) market in recent years. An increasing number of citizens and businesses are turning to motorcycles and scooters because they offer leisure and solutions for city mobility. The Powered Two- Wheeler circulating park has been increasing more (+21%) for the period 2000–2007. There are currently an estimated 33 million PTW´s in circulation in the 27 EU countries, from small 50cc mopeds to powerful motorcycles (The European Union Road Federation (ERF), the Brussels Programme Centre of the International Road Federation (IRF) discussion paper 2009).
Oxygen calculations show that a traditional 50cc scooter, the most common vehicle for European transport services, with an average mileage of around 30 km per day, emits approximately 2,5 tonnes of C02 in the atmosphere over a period of 12 months.
Every time a LEV replaces a traditional vehicle, it means a 90% decrease in the C02.

Light Electric Vehicles (LEV´s)
Light Electrical Vehicles (LEV´s) emit little or no C02 and pollutes 90% less than traditional vehicles fueled by petrol and diesel. In addition to reducing C02 and emitting cleaner air, the LEV´s are virtually noiseless and help reduce the problem of noise in urban environments.
Using LEV´s for transportation and delivery services also saves money on energy costs. An average of 1,488 euro is saved in energy costs per year, for each scooter that replaces a petrol scooter (based on the average price of petrol in Germany of 1,34 euro). This means an amount of 148,800 euro is saved when with 100 electric scooters replace 100 petrol scooters.

The Oxygen scooter
Oxygen’s electric CargoScooter is a zero-emission vehicle, supplied with lithium-ion batteries and designed for professional use with a range up to 120 km. Recharging is done by connecting the CargoScooter to an electrical socket. Oxygen specializes in the development, manufacturing, sales and distribution of environmentally friendly, technologically advanced pure electric powered lightweight vehicles.
